Why is the red TEMP light on my PowerStage 700 stereo lighting up?
The red TEMP LED on the front panel of the PowerStage 700 Stereo lights up to indicate the activation of over-temperature protection. The over-temperature circuit monitors the temperature in the output stage and power supply. As the temperature in either approaches 110°C, the power supply will start to lower the rail voltages, reducing the maximum power output. When the temperature reaches 140°C, the amplifier will shut down for a short period of time.
- Lighting of the “Temp” indicator can be caused by the following:
- Lack of air circulation around amplifier.
- Blocked vents.
- Excessively high ambient temperatures.
- Heavy loading of output (low impedance loads) coupled with high power demand.
- Combinations of any or all of the above.
