Why is the red TEMP light on my PowerStage 700 stereo coming on?

Why is the red TEMP light on my PowerStage 700 stereo lighting up?

  • The red TEMP LED on the front panel of the PowerStage 700 Stereo lights up  to indicate the activation of over-temperature protection. The over-temperature circuit monitors the temperature in the output stage and power supply. As the temperature in either approaches 110°C, the power supply will start to lower the rail voltages, reducing the maximum power output. When the temperature reaches 140°C, the amplifier will shut down for a short period of time.

  • Lighting of the “Temp” indicator can be caused by the following:
    • Lack of air circulation around amplifier.
    • Blocked vents.
    • Excessively high ambient temperatures.
    • Heavy loading of output (low impedance loads) coupled with high power demand.
    • Combinations of any or all of the above.
