First I press the bass string at the last fret of the instrument and adjust the Bridge pickup 1/16th of an inch and the Neck pickup 3/16th of an inch away from the string. Then I press the treble string at the last fret and adjust the bridge pickup 1/16th of an inch and the neck pickup 1/8th of an inch away from the string. This usually gives me a good balance between the Bridge and Neck pickup, providing the pickups are close to equal specifications.
