Does Pickguard Material Affect the Brad Paisley Secret Agent Tele Neck Pickup’s Performance?

Pickguard material can possibly affect the performance of the Brad Paisley Secret Agent Tele neck pickup. The Brad Paisley Secret Agent pickup was designed to be installed beneath plastic or bakelite pickguards—specifically those without foil shielding on the underside. These materials allow the pickup’s electromagnetic field to function as intended and preserve its clean, punchy response.

Using Metal Pickguards

We have not officially tested the Secret Agent with metal pickguards (e.g., anodized aluminum). While aluminum itself is non-magnetic and shouldn't directly affect the pickup’s magnetic field, it can still interact with electromagnetic signals or act as a conductor for interference (EMI/RFI).

If you're using a metal pickguard, we recommend the following precautions:

  • Insulate the rail of the Secret Agent pickup with non-conductive tape (even standard clear tape works) to prevent accidental grounding.

  • Ensure the pickguard doesn’t directly touch the pickup’s exposed components.

  • Avoid pickguards with conductive shielding foil directly above the pickup area.

These steps help prevent noise, interference, or grounding issues that could affect signal clarity or tone.
